Jane Austen & Tea: Long Walks at Longbourn
Our final instalment of Jane Austen themed teas had to be a herbal blend. In keeping with the theme of taking inspiration from Austen’s beloved heroines, we turned to Elizabeth Bennet of Pride & Prejudice: a spirited nature-lover who enjoys countryside walks. We imagined her taking a turn about the grounds of her home Longbourn, picking flowers and herbs for a calming tisane.
With nerve-soothing staples of an English garden such as lavender and rose, you can imagine Lizzy putting this blend together to help calm her poor Mamma. Nettle’s anti-inflammatory properties may have been well-utilised amongst the Bennet sisters to stave off aches and pains from hours of needlework or piano-playing, and dandelion leaf and root serve as a source of vitamins B2, B6, B12, C and E to support the overall health of our heroines whenever their meddling mothers insist on their journeying by horseback to a suitor’s house because it looks like it may rain, meaning they have to stay the night!
This herbal tisane contains the benefits of herbal folk medicine spanning back centuries, and the delights of a long walk in an English garden. Won’t you join us in taking a turn about the garden and reading a letter we have just received?
